July Walks 2024: Resistance

July 2, 2024

I did take a walk this morning – two short ones, actually. I would have skipped the first one except that I declared to my community that I would walk every day this month! So glad I did, too, because it really is true for me that walking in Nature, even with no mileage goal, lifts my spirits, wakes me up, and opens my heart to lighter views of the future. (I admit that yesterday’s Supreme Court decision feels heavy, even when I am open to things “unfolding according to a divine plan.”)

Here in Ohio, the meadow in my neighborhood park is festive with wildflowers. It’s so great that the county lets the meadow grow!

My second walk unfolded in the same park, with my Mom. I enrolled her in leaving her assisted living chair, drive over to the park, and let me push her in her transport chair around the tiny lake. She was so concerned that I wouldn’t be able to manage the hills, that I couldn’t tell if she was taking in the beauty. She did say, “That was a pleasant morning, thank you!” so my mission was fulfilled.
