July Walks: Setting My Intention

July 1, 2024

Good morning! In March, I had set out to be on a trail somewhere on the Appalachian Trail for my birthday month of July.  That plan did not materialize! . And here’s why. I was focused on looking for a different place to live because my landlord had only been offering a 12–month lease.  Since I moved to Dayton, Ohio to care for my 96-year old mother and will not likely stay here once she passes, committing to an entire year feels extravagant. I focused my search on cheaper rentals that still had access to a place to walk in Nature. That’s what I like best about my current apartment.

To my surprise and delight, he came through with approving a 6-month lease during the last week of June!  Moving in July got swept off the table!

The last weekend in June had me driving to Buffalo, NY for a family member’s memorial and connecting with a good number of family members. Originally, I would have launched my July Walk on the Appalachian Trail from there. Now, that isn’t happening. I’m back in Dayton, Ohio.

So,  today I walked out my door to that lovely park down the street from my apartment. As I walked, I realized an intention I could implement. What if I walked every day of July in a natural area?  Could that feel as fulfilling as walking on the Appalachian Trail?  What if I declare that to my community and write my reflections about each walk?  Wouldn’t that be an expression of my purpose for ForgivenessWalks to craft walks that are transformative and fulfilling regardless of where they are or how long they are?

I think so!

It’s July 1, 2024 and it has now become the first day of Regina’s July Walks, 2024. Walking in Nature every day in July and sharing my observations, thoughts, and reflections! Stay tuned for tomorrow!
